Name: Erica Kammann
Title: Co-Founder
Business: Suddenlee
Location: New York City
Smartphone: iPhone 4 (still not convinced that the 5 is worth the switch).
Tablet: Much to the dismay of my vision, I don’t have one yet. When the time is right, I’ll likely splurge on an iPad Mini. Until then, you’ll find me squinting on the subway with my iPhone.
Computer: MacBook Air

What’s the story behind your business?

Suddenlee-LogoMy co-founder, Ron Fauntleroy, and I launched Suddenlee after working together at Sears Holdings. Despite our different skill sets and backgrounds, our shared passion for developing amazing customer experiences led us to venture out on our own. Logistics and fulfillment is an area that many retailers overlook, despite the important role it plays when shoppers order online. We think consumers deserve more and retailers can do better—so we help both!

Suddenlee is a shopping logistics platform that connects online with offline store inventory to provide consumers with same-day or next-day delivery from all their favorite specialty, designer and department stores in a single box. We currently service the Northeast with our next-day service and are in private beta in NYC with same-day delivery.

What apps or services are essential to the operations of your business?

Technology powers everything we do at Suddenlee. The systems that we use to receive and process orders are proprietary, but they are supported by numerous applications and services that make sure we’re delivering for our customers each day.

The following are a few of my favorites:

PexCard: A pre-paid business debit card that enables us to easily manage our purchases each day. It’s easy to issue as many cards as your business needs and they provide a great system for disseminating funds and monitoring purchases instantaneously. Before finding PexCard, we spent weeks working toward a similar solution with our bank of record only to be told that it “wasn’t possible” at the very last minute. PexCard is an amazing product for small business!

Zendesk: Our business is only as great as the service we provide each day, so Zendesk plays a critical role in our daily operations. Their applications (desktop and mobile) are easy to use, reliable, and affordable.

MailChimp: They make email marketing simple, beautiful, and fun.

SurveyMonkey: Easy to use survey application that helps us receive feedback from our customers to ensure we’re doing better every day.

Favorite personal app(s)?

Spotify: Essential fuel for my morning workout and any subway ride.

Tory Daily: Daily morning doses of inspiration from the team at Tory Burch. From fashion to food to the Tory Burch Foundation (supporting women entrepreneurs) — their daily editorial features are the perfect way to start each day.
